
Getting Your SACMI Rotary Heaters Up to Temp Faster
If you’re running SACMI rotary blow molding machines, you know they don’t exactly move slowly. Everything is high-frequency, high-pressure. In that kind of environment, every second you spend waiting for a heater lamp to warm up is just wasted time. It kills your cycle time and, worse, it messes with your preform quality. That’s why we built our replacement lamps to cut out that annoying lag. The secret is in the heat. We spent a lot of time looking at the relationship between voltage and filament mass. Basically, by using a higher voltage setup, we can push more wattage through a thinner filament. Why does that matter? It lowers the “thermal inertia.” In plain English: the lamp doesn’t have to fight its own weight to get hot. It hits that perfect infrared wavelength almost instantly. You stop wasting those first few preforms that usually come out under-heated during a “cold start.” It’s all about the fit. We use high-purity quartz glass so the heat actually goes where it belongs—into the PET preform—instead of getting soaked up by the tube wall. And we didn’t want you fighting with the installation. These are drop-in replacements for Krones and SACMI setups. We use precision-machined end caps because a loose connection is a nightmare. If the contact isn’t tight, you get hotspots, and those hotspots burn out the ends of your tubes. A quick reality check from the shop floor. Now, here’s the thing. Fast start-ups come with a trade-off. These high-intensity lamps put a bit more stress on your power supplies and reflectors. If your reflectors are dirty or pitted, the heat just bounces right back into the quartz. That’s a recipe for a premature blowout. If you want these lamps to actually last, you’ve got to keep those reflectors polished. We spec these tubes to handle the brutal cycling of rotary machines. They hit the target temperature fast and stay there—just make sure your cooling blowers can handle the extra heat around the oven.
