Water and steam are basically kryptonite for infrared heating elements. If you’ve ever run an industrial table setup, you know the drill: a little bit of condensation or one accidental splash, and suddenly you’ve got a short circuit or a burnt-out filament. It’s frustrating, and it kills your productivity. We got tired of seeing that happen, so we built our waterproof heaters to stop those failures before they even start. Dealing with the fog Here is the problem with standard quartz tubes: moisture loves to settle on the glass. When that happens, you get these “cold spots.” The glass expands unevenly, and snap—the tungsten filament breaks. To fix this, we use anti-fogging treatments and sealed housings that keep the heating zone bone-dry. By keeping the moisture from sticking to the emitter, we get rid of the thermal shock that usually kills those cheap, off-the-shelf lamps. Splashes happen. Your heater shouldn’t break. A single drop of coolant or water hitting a hot lamp is usually a recipe for a cracked tube. It’s an instant disaster. We handled this by using specialized gaskets and recessed mounting. This basically diverts any liquid away from the electrical terminals. You won’t have to deal with those annoying “arc-over” failures you see with open-frame heaters. It just works. One thing to keep in mind… Now, there is a trade-off. When you add waterproof seals and covers, the heat doesn’t escape the same way it does with a naked bulb. The housing traps more heat to keep the internals safe. Because of that, you’ve got to make sure your airflow is set up right. If you seal everything up too tight without thinking about the heat soak, you might overheat your external wiring. Just a heads-up.
