
Stop Fighting Your Old SIPA Machines
A lot of mid-sized shops are still running legacy SIPA blow molders. They’re workhorses, but let’s be honest—they struggle to keep up when the production quotas start climbing. Before you go spending a fortune on a brand-new machine, take a look at your heating oven. Most of the time, that’s where the bottleneck is. Your old infrared lamps are likely degraded and tired. Swapping them out for high-density halogen elements can actually shave seconds off your cycle times and push out way more bottles per hour. The secret is in the heat. We build these lamps to push out short-wave infrared radiation. When you replace a standard tube with a high-wattage halogen version, you’re hitting that PET preform with a much more intense burst of heat. It gets the plastic to its glass transition temperature a lot faster. If you decide to jump to a 400V spec, you get an even more concentrated heat profile. Just a heads-up: that puts more pressure on your cooling fans. If your vents are clogged or just too small, you might overheat the machine frame. Keep an eye on that. No headaches during install We use heavy-wall quartz glass so the tubes don’t bow or warp when things get hot. Since most of our SIPA lamps use R7s or Sk15 connectors, they’re basically drop-in replacements. You won’t be spending your weekend rewiring the control cabinet or messing with the lamp holders. Plus, the coating on the quartz is designed to bounce the heat inward toward the preform. It stops the heat from bleeding into the oven walls, which saves power and keeps the air around the machine from feeling like a sauna. What happens on the floor Getting these running is simple. Pull the old tubes, scrub any carbon buildup out of the sockets, and pop the new ones in. You’ll notice the difference in heat distribution almost immediately. Your warm-up time will drop, and your bottle walls will look more consistent. One tip: watch your PID settings. These lamps pack a punch, so you might need to dial back the power percentages so you don’t accidentally scorch the PET.
